The Frontal Lobes
Located at the front of each cerebral hemisphere,
The frontal lobes manage control, judgment, language production, working memory, motor function, problem solving, sexual behavior, socialization, and spontaneity.
These two lobes also help in planning, coordinating, controlling, and executing behavior. Cognitive maturity
is commonly marked by related maturation of cerebral fibers in the frontal lobes during the early 20's.
Dopamine-sensitive neurons in the cerebral cortex are found primarily in the frontal lobes. Dopamine controls sensory information arriving from the thalamus to the fore-brain.
The "executive functions" of the frontal lobes include the ability to recognize consequences resulting from present actions, choosing specific actions and complex judgment abilities.
The frontal lobes retain long term memories. They recieve
rich neuronal input both from the brain-stem
and the limbic regions.
