The Cerebellum
The Cerebellum functions as an integrator of sensory perception and motor output. Neural pathways
link the cerebellum with the motor cortex which, in turn,
sends signals to the muscular system thereby creating
movement, or signals to the spinocerebellar tract—which
provides information on the current position of the body.
Up-to-date research also shows that the cerebellum has a
broad role in numerous cognitive functions, including attention and the processing of language, music, and other sensory temporal stimuli.
For example, the learning of a physical task is done
by trial and error and then stored into cerebellar memory.
This is the reason that we never forget basic skills such
as riding a bike.
